  • The candidate who is applying for the UPSC exam should be an Indian Citizen.
  • The candidates from Nepal or Bhutan can also appear for Exam.
  • The candidate will be eligible also if he is a Tibetan Refugee who permanently settled in India before Jan 1, 1962.
  • The candidate can appear in the exam if he is a PIO (Person of Indian Origin). The one who migrated and settled permanently in India from different countries. And different countries are Burma, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Zaire, Malawi, Zambia, Kenya, and Uganda.

Qualifications

  • The candidate who wants to appear in the exam should have a degree from a recognized University by government or equivalent qualification.
  • The candidates who are waiting for the results of their final year can also appear in the exam. But they can appear for the Preliminary Exam. But for the main exam, they have to show proof of passing the qualification.
  • The candidates who are having some government recognized Technical and Professional qualifications, can also apply for the exam. Or they can also have some equivalent technical and professional degrees.
  • The candidates will also eligible if they have the degree of MBBS or other equivalents medical exam. They have to show the certificate as proof that they have passed the medical exam from a Government Recognized University.

Age Limits

To appear in the UPSC Exam 2019, the candidate must have completed 21 years age as on Aug 1, 2019. And the age should not exceed 32 years of age as on Aug 1, 2019. However, some relaxations are also given to some candidates. Using this age calculator to calculate your age before reading further:

  • General Candidates:
    The Upper Age Limit or the maximum age limit for the General category Students is 32 years.
  • OBC (Other Backward Class):
    The Upper Age limit or the maximum age limit for OBC candidates is 35 years. The relaxation of 3 years is applicable to them.
  • SC/ST (Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribes):
    The Upper Age limit or the maximum age limit for SC/ST candidates is 37 years. The relaxation of 5 years is applicable to them.
  • General Physically Disabled:
    The Upper Age limit or the maximum age limit for General Physically disabled candidates is 35 years. The relaxation of 3 years is applicable to them. This is applicable the same for disable general servicemen also.
  • OBC Physically Disabled:
    The Upper Age limit or the maximum age limit for OBC Physically disabled candidates is 38 years. The relaxation of 6 years is applicable to them. This is applicable the same for OBC Disable servicemen also.
  • SC/ST Physically disabled:
    The Upper Age limit or the maximum age limit for SC/ST Physically disabled candidates is 40 years. The relaxation of 8 years is applicable to them. This is applicable the same for SC/ST Disable servicemen also.

  • General Candidates:
    The maximum number of Attempts that general candidates can apply for the exam is 6 times.
  • OBC Candidates:
    The maximum number of Attempts that OBC candidates can apply for the exam is 9 times.
  • SC/ST Candidates:
    There is no limit for SC/ST candidates for attempting the Exam. They can attempt the exam for unlimited times.
  • Disabled General Candidates:
    The maximum number of Attempts that Disabled general candidates can apply for the exam is 9 times.
  • Disabled OBC Candidates:
    The maximum number of Attempts that disabled OBC candidates can apply for the exam is 9 times.
  • Disabled SC/ST Candidates:
    There is no limit for Disabled SC/ST candidates for attempting the Exam. They can attempt the exam for unlimited times.
